THE WORKBENCH
Welcome into the workshop where big ideas, new tools and materials of every kind come together. This is a behind-the-scenes tour of my workshops, my processes and projects straining toward completion.
MARIONETTES
Carving and engineering wooden puppets is my speciality. Here are a few standout examples, exploring the process of creating each, and lessons learned

RICK RUBIN

SWAGMAN'S LUCK

DON QUIXOTE
A most elaborate puppet
Showtime Networks contacted me to design and build a likeness of the famous music producer for a documentary series titled Shangri-La, centered around the man and his mythical studio in Malibu
The largest batch I've made
Based on Banjo Patterson's Waltzing Mathilda, this was the largest single project I'd ever worked on, building eleven original marionettes for the show. It required a kookaburra, an emu, two jumbucks, a horse, a kangaroo, three troopers, the Squatter and Frank the Swagman
The model moving forward
This marionette served as the model for a series of tutorial build videos and my marionette building manual. It's the basis for resin castings which will be the marionette kits sent to hobbyist marionette builders across the globe

Mold making

Works in progress
I have thousands of photos of documentation, from hundreds of projects, I've built over the last two decades. Many sit in albums, seldom seen. Documentation and reference for if I ever build something similar again. Others have their own beauty rendering a signpost along a journey.
